Armed with a Chromebook and a glass of Diet Coke, I set out to discover the hidden pieces of my family tree. This website was created to share my genealogy research for free. Genealogy is a passion of mine and I like to share my findings with relatives.
About Me
My name is Devry and I live in my hometown of Nashville, Tennessee. I’m a rare Nashville native. I have ancestors who were early Davidson County pioneers.
I am a mother of two children, who I hope will one day share my love of genealogy.
Between being a mom and working a full-time job, my favorite hobby is genealogy research when I can find the time.
I have always had a love for history. Learning the stories of my ancestors and the events they lived through is fascinating.
I started building my family tree around 2003. I have been researching for about 14 years now. My first inspiration to start my own research came in my early high school years. I visited the Wayne County, Tennessee genealogy fair with my mom and Uncle Johnny. Uncle Johnny also gave me a copy of Family Tree Maker for my birthday one year. That was my push to really dive in to creating my family tree.
About the Website’s Name
A few years ago, my mom suggested the name Down Home Genealogy for a website containing our family history. I decided in 2016 to create a blog to share my research and hopefully turn up in a few Google search results if someone was also researching my ancestors.
I went with Down Home Genealogy because my mom said as a child her mother always talked about going back to Wayne County, Tennessee as going “down home”. It gives me the feeling of going back to my roots.
